India’s Cotton Planting Continues To Advance, With The Area Remaining At A Moderate To High Level In Recent Years

According to statistics from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture, as of September 8th, the weekly cotton planting area in India was 200000 hectares, a significant increase of 186% compared to last week (70000 hectares). The new cotton planting area this week is mainly in Andhra Pradesh, with approximately 189000 hectares planted that week. As of the same period, the cumulative planting area of new cotton in India reached 12.4995 million hectares (approximately 187.49 million acres), a decrease of 1.3% compared to the same period last year (12.6662 million hectares, approximately 189.99 million acres), which is at a moderate to high level in recent years.

From the specific cotton planting situation in each cotton area, the new cotton planting in the northern cotton area has been basically completed, with no new area added this week. The cumulative cotton planting area is 1.6248 million hectares (24.37 million acres), an increase of 2.8% year-on-year. The planting area of the central cotton region is 7.5578 million hectares (113.37 million acres), an increase of 2.1% year-on-year. The new cotton planting area in the southern cotton region is 3.0648 million hectares (45.97 million acres), a year-on-year decrease of about 11.5%.
