Australia New Cotton Is About To Harvest This Year, And Next Year’s Production May Remain High

As of the end of March, the new cotton harvest in Australia in 2022/23 is approaching, and recent rainfall has been very helpful in improving unit yield and promoting maturity.

Currently, the maturity of new Australian cotton flowers varies. Some dry land fields and early sowing irrigated fields have started spraying defoliants, and most crops will have to wait 2-3 weeks for defoliation. Harvesting in central Queensland has begun and the overall harvest is satisfactory.

In the past month, the weather conditions in Australia’s cotton producing areas have been extremely suitable, and there is a possibility of a further increase in new cotton production, especially in dryland fields. Although it is still difficult to determine the quality of new cotton, cotton farmers need to take seriously the quality indicators of new cotton, especially the horse’s value and pile length, which are likely to be better than expected. The premium and discount should be adjusted appropriately.

According to the advance forecast of the Australian authoritative agency, the area of cotton planting in Australia in 2023/24 is expected to be 491500 hectares, including 385500 hectares of irrigated fields, 106000 hectares of dry land fields, 11.25 packages per hectare of irrigated fields, 3.74 packages per hectare of dry land fields, and 4.732 million packages of cotton flowers, including 4.336 million packages of irrigated fields and 396000 packages of dry land fields. According to the current situation, the planting area in northern Australia is expected to increase significantly, but the water storage capacity of some canals in Queensland is relatively small, and the planting conditions are not as good as last year. The cotton planting area may have decreased to varying degrees.
